TST Update | Wednesday | Week 9

Hi again parents!

It is beautiful here today at camp and we are having so much fun. Take a look at these photos from activities earlier today:

Tonight’s Avenue is focused on the idea of refuge. Your campers will get a message about how we all have things in our lives that we take refuge in, whether it be other people, sports, our sin, success in school, etc. They will see a drama illustrating this idea of refuge, using bricks to represent the situations or things in our life that we seek refuge in. We take our refuge in and find safety in so many things besides Christ. But God’s Word says, “The Lord is my refuge” (Psalm 8:2). All these issues will never truly protect us. They are weighing us down. They are keeping us from growing closer to God. Therefore, we need to give them to the Lord and let Him be our refuge. We need to let him break every chain. He desires to carry these things for us and we can’t do it alone. Please be praying that your kids will learn tonight to find their refuge in Jesus, rather than the empty things that this world offers!

Thank you and have an amazing day!

TST Update | Week 8 | Monday

Hello parents! Welcome to the Teen Service Team’s blog!

It’s a really nice day here in Evart, MI! It’s 73 degrees Fahrenheit and is mostly sunny, with some cloud coverage. It’s beautiful! Your youth are either outside serving at the many locations we have here around camp, serving in the dining halls, or are doing accommodations. But it’s not all work and no play here at SpringHill! Depending on their schedule, your campers are also enjoying fun activities in the mornings or the afternoons during the week.

Here is a video from Miles Alters, Director of TST, as well as some clips of activities from the day:

The theme of TST’s curriculum this year is centered around the idea of restoration. Tonight, Miles will speak to your youth about reality and how there are two different perspectives on reality: the world’s perspective and God’s perspective. The media and cultural leaders of this world communicate one kind of reality that is filled with lies and inconsistencies, while God sees our lives differently and sees them the way it should be. The ultimate reality is that God loves us and has a wonderful plan for our lives. Our prayer is that our TST campers would begin to see things the way God sees them rather than what the world imposes on them.

Here are some other prayer requests you can bring before God:

Camper/staff safety and good health
Relevant worship and small group discussions that bring kids closer to God
Wisdom and discernment for the crew chiefs and area directors
Growth in all campers’ relationships with Christ
Eyes to be opened

Thanks so much for following us this week! Feel free to email me at sgilbert@springhillcamps.com if you have any questions. Have a wonderful day!

New Frontiers Update | Week 8 | Monday

Hey parents! Welcome to the New Frontiers blog!

It’s a really nice day here in Evart, MI! It’s 73 degrees Fahrenheit and is mostly sunny, with some cloud coverage. It’s beautiful! Today, your campers made flags representing each of their cabin groups during Competition time. Each cabin group started with only a blank white flag and black paint. In order to get glitter, colored paint, and other materials to make their flags, they competed in several mini-games around the soccer field. The games included rock-paper-scissors, dizzy stick, riddles, finger sword-fighting, an obstacle course, and throwing tennis balls in a bowl hat.

They also have been enjoying various, fun activities throughout the day. Some guys were really impressive at the skatepark. Other campers had a blast at the play barge, swimming and going down the water zipline. And another group was playing a game of six square during their free time!

Here are some pictures of these activities:

Today during focus, your campers learned about Onesimus, the runaway slave once owned by Philemon, and the story of how he met Paul and became a Christ follower. Paul pleads with Philemon to accept Onesimus back as a brother in Christ rather than as a disobedient slave. Along with this story comes the lesson of how we can also, like Onesimus, know God in a personal way rather than as an impersonal, distant God. Pray that your campers would begin to see God in this light during this week at camp.

Along with this prayer request, you can also lift up the following in prayer:

Wisdom and knowledge for counselors as they teach lessons Smooth programming The Holy Spirit’s presence during worship and play Unity in cabin groups Campers to grow in their relationship with Christ Injury prevention

Thank you so much for checking in with us! If you have any questions regarding the blog, you can email me at sgilbert@springhillcamps.com. Have a great rest of your Monday!

TST Blog | Week 7 | Wednesday

Going down the water zipline, working with your friends in the cafeteria, doing grounds work, and diving into God’s word…

Just another fun-filled day as a TST camper!

Not a cloud is in the sky today, as the weather is currently 81 degrees here in Evart, MI.  Your kids have been working hard for a majority of the day getting a lot accomplished in the hot sun, the dining hall, or in accommodations.  We cannot thank them enough for how well they have been serving us.  You campers have also been poured into through lesson plans given by our crew chiefs in their “Restoration” curriculum.

And when they aren’t working or growing in the Lord, they’re having a blast at fun activities!  Today I got to hang out with some campers at the party barge and water zipline:

“The Lord is my refuge” (Psalm 8:2).  This message written across a brick wall during a drama skit was the main point presented to your campers tonight.  High school students find refuge in a lot of different things beside Christ. Whether it be acceptance in peer groups, substance abuse, a significant other, or any other vice, young people run to these “strongholds” that ultimately leave them feeling insecure and unprotected.  Tonight, pray that your kids would learn to find their refuge in Jesus rather than the empty things that this world offers.

Here are some other things you can pray for:

  • Continued protection from the sun
  • Community and relationships building in cabins
  • Students being more open to the message of the Gospel
  • No one getting left out in participating in activities or small groups
  • Students growing in a faith that is their own
  • Safety during work projects and activities
  • And, of course, having a blast!

Thanks again for checking out our blog and feel free to email me questions at sgilbert@springhillcamps.com!

TST Blog | Week 7 | Monday

Hello parents!  Welcome to the TST blog!

Today, the sun has been shining down to the tune of about 84 degrees as your youth are outside serving the many locations we have here around camp, as well as enjoying great activities.  Some of your kids are working in the grounds making concrete footpaths while others are serving in the dining hall.  But its not all work and no play here at SpringHill!  Depending on their schedule, your campers are also enjoying fun activities in the mornings or the afternoons during the week.

I got to hang out with some TST campers going up the Copper Country rock wall and zipline!  Check out these snapshots of your kids!
